A useful record can be short. The important part is separating what you saw, what you changed and what happened next. This avoids turning a quiet day into an unsupported conclusion that the problem has gone away.
Use one row for each observation
Record the date, room, precise location and what you saw. Add a photograph reference only if you could take it safely. Keep ‘unknown insect’ as a valid entry; do not force a species name because a chart looks similar. Repeat observations deserve separate dates.
Record the action separately
Note the housekeeping change, repair or professional visit and when it occurred. If a product was used, retain its label and record the exact name. Do not put a conclusion such as ‘fixed’ in the action field. The record should describe what was done, not assume its effect.
Agree on the next check
Decide when to inspect the same location again, using a method that does not disturb suspected contamination. For a professional treatment, follow the provider’s instructions and re-entry precautions. Ask what continued activity should trigger a follow-up rather than improvising another application.
Share only what the provider needs
A concise list of locations, dates and prior actions can make a service conversation more useful. Remove unrelated personal details from photos and notes before sharing them. Our on-page planner runs in your browser and does not send your selections to a contractor or store them as a service request.
Your takeaway checklist
- Observation recorded separately from action
- Unknown identification kept as unknown
- Product or service paperwork retained
- Next check agreed without a guarantee
- Only relevant information shared
Keep this in mind
A log makes changes visible. It does not replace identification, safe cleanup or a professional assessment.
